Atlanta Black-Owned Businesses

BlackLivesMatter and black-owned businesses matter!!! Saying these phrases are simply not enough. In the midst of recent protests, petitions, and donations it is important for us to take a look at our individual power through our spending habits. Take a moment to examine your current spending habits and what they say about you? What do they say about who you are and what you support?

Systematic economic inequality affects black-owned businesses who have to fighter harder and longer to stay in business. Lets take this a step closer to home and look into how supporting our neighbors black-owned business can help:

  1. The profits from our spending help the community where we live.
  2. It creates jobs for people and local opportunity.
  3. Spending all your money with people who live out of your community is like building a house on sinking sand.

Where we spend our money matters! This post will provide you with a list of Atlanta black-owned businesses I’m supporting ranging from clothing, jewelry, home decor, lifestyle brands, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Atlanta Black-Owned Businesses

Clothing:

Squash Blossom Boutique – This boho inspired boutique has a location in Decatur and Grant Park! There is a large shopping variety for multiple generations of playful apparel. Some of my favorites include dad jeans, jumpsuits, and even vegan Moto jackets for the edgier gal. The owner has even crafted a section for gifts for your guy!

God Is Dope – A local Atlanta black-owned business is bridging the gap between youth and God. Their street style box logo is a great addition to their graphic tees, hats, and hoodies for a casual look that speaks volumes. Check out their Instagram to learn more about the brand for yourself. I absolutely love and support the message they are putting out in my city. I will most definitely be purchasing some items and sharing them with you all!

Versus ATL – Versus specializes in vintage, sneakers and street wear. Here you will find sneaker brands like Adidas, Nike and Jordan. In addition, you will also find a variety of vintage T-shirts. Ranging from Afrocentric, Harley Davidson, Music and sports. I love shopping vintage items and you can visit this store or shop online!

Jewelry:

Nirvana Wild – Nir·va·na/noun (in Buddhism) a transcendent state in which there is neither suffering, desire, nor sense of self, and the subject is released from the effects of karma and the cycle of death and rebirth. It represents the final goal of Buddhism.

Nirvana Wild is an inspiring free spirited collection of jewelry founded by an Atlanta Yogi ShaKara. Her jewelry line incorporates crystals, love, and power in every piece. I love stackable pieces that can be mixed and matched and Nirvana Wild has created just that!

Home:

Sustainable Home Goods – If you are looking for one of a kind home goods to beautify your home, office, or stunning accessories than look no further than Sustainable Home Goods at Ponce City Market. Founder LaToya Tucciarone has partnered with makers across the globe to source and provide these goods. She has partnered with at least 25 different countries, including Peru, Zimbabwe, Senegal and Guatemala.

Wellness/Lifestyle:

L’Artisan Muse – They offer a carefully curated collection of holistic classes, events, products & services for the mind, body, and soul. Every class, product, and service offered is sourced with the idea of helping you to feel good. They are even offering free online resources and virtual classes on crystal healing 101!

Iwi Fresh – A farm to skin spa founded by ‘Yogi Skincare Chef’ Yolanda Owens. Her mission is to feed your skin the truth! This brand was inspired by her grandmother who treated family ills with nutrition and herbal remedies. Owens has produced her own line of skincare recipes, beauty creams, and veggie spa packages for your next garden party. Most importantly, Atlanta locals love Iwi Fresh because of the natural ingredients, positive energy, and amazing customer service.

The Honey Pot – The Honey Pot is an Atlanta black-owned business created by Bea Dixon. This brand specializes in a variety of feminine care. They sell feminine cleansers, wipes, menstrual pads, cups, and tampons. All products are clinically-tested, biodegradable, cruelty-free, and gynecologist-approved!

Restaurants:

Local Green Atlanta – Local Green Atlanta is a fast casual restaurant whose mission is to redefine healthy, affordable food for all by creating an ecosystem based on trust and accountability. This restaurant is vegan and pescatarian friendly! I have yet to try it out. However, their Kryptonite Smoothie is high on my list! The Kryptonite smoothie is vegan and includes kale, spinach, banana, mango, coconutwater, with chia seed or flax seeds.

Slutty Vegan – If you are looking for plant based burger options in Atlanta then Slutty Vegan is your jam. I already have my eye on the Super Slut! A plant-based patty loaded with guacamole, jalapeños, vegan cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and our Slut Sauce on a vegan Hawaiian bun. Perhaps I’ll even try the Nola style fried pickles with blackberry mayo sauce!

Sweet Auburn Seafood – From their Sweet Auburn seafood burger, lemon pepper chicken wings, and killer brunch menu there is something for everyone here. They bring an upscale, mid-priced, white table cloth dining experience to Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, GA. This area is also home to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site which explores Dr. King’s legacy in the Civil Rights movement and displays one of the city’s two Nobel Peace Prizes.

Sublime Doughnuts – Kamal Grant founded Sublime Doughnuts back in 2008. He is a well traveled culinary graduate bringing in flavors from around the world to his doughnut canvas. These are hands down some of the best and unique flavored doughnuts I have had in my life! Check out his shop for custom birthday doughnuts, burgers, and even ice cream.

Coffee & Tea Shops:

Good Karma Coffee Shop – This coffee shop is serving breakfast with everyones allergies in mind. They offer gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and soy-free breakfast foods from a dedicated facility. Wether you are in the mood for waffles and pancakes for breakfast or maybe a cuban with vegan cheese for lunch this shop has it all and offering curbside service.

Hodgepodge Coffeehouse – Firstly, if you are looking for homemade pastries and homegrown coffee then this is your coffee house! Some of their signature drinks include Ghirardelli Chocolate mixed in with their brews for an indulgent take on your afternoon coffee. They offer drip coffee and chocolate chip banana bread for breakfast and a jerk chicken sandwich for lunch that has my name on it. Side note if you are a local artist they have an application for you to submit your work to be exhibited in the shop!

Just Add Honey Tea Company This company was created by a tea lover who wanted more than just artificially flavored tea bags. Their tea is naturally sourced from around the world bringing a variety of flavors to their tea room and your home. Check out their blog for wellness info on how teas/herbs can help you heal.
