If you’re a music festival lover who thrives on dressing up, Hulaween is like a costume dream come true. It’s a celebration of live music, good vibes, and, of course, seriously creative costumes. Hulaween 2021 was no exception—imagine Halloween meets the magic of a music festival. My friends and I went all in, and here’s how we pulled off three totally different costumes that were perfect for Hulaween, Halloween, or any themed event.
Day 1: Group Robot Costumes

SHOP MY LOOK
We kicked off Hulaween in full futuristic style with a robot squad look for Day 1. Group costumes are always a blast because not only do you feel like you’re part of something epic, but they also make it way easier to spot your crew in the crowd. Plus, you get all the good vibes from fellow festival-goers!
How We Created the Look:
- Metallic Everything
- We embraced silver, gold, black, and pops of color. Think robot catsuits, LED glasses, platform boots, and glowing makeup to tie everything together. The metallic shine brought the whole look to life!
- Robot Accessories
- LED robot-inspired glasses were the game-changer. Paired with chunky boots and metallic face paint, this look really stood out.
- Robot Makeup
- I kept the base light with foundation and then used a fine paintbrush to carefully draw metallic lines and little “screws” to create the illusion of a robot face. For that sleek, futuristic vibe, I chose a dark metallic lip, and to top it off, I added one white and one black false eyelash to amp up the drama.
Why It Worked:
This robot look was perfect for dancing under the festival lights. It was futuristic and playful, plus those LED lights? Yeah, we literally glowed all night long.

Day 2: Dumb and Dumber Duo

SHOP MY LOOK
On Day 2, my best friend and I went full comedy with the iconic Dumb and Dumber duo. This look is easy, hilarious, and guaranteed to have everyone laughing (I couldn’t stop quoting my favorite Lloyd Christmas lines).
How We Pulled It Together:
- Bright Suits
- We grabbed oversized orange and blue blazers, bodysuits, and colored fishnets to bring the duo to life.
- Accessories That Pop
- Top hats, canes, and bow ties sealed the deal. Because why not go all out with accessories?
- Comfort First
- Since Hulaween is all about walking and dancing, we went with gogo boots in our orange and blue colors with a thicker heel. Style and comfort, baby!
Why It Worked:
This look is instantly recognizable and guaranteed to get a laugh. Plus, the bright colors made it easy to spot each other in the crowd—super helpful when you’re navigating through a sea of festival-goers!
Day 3: Dragon Lady Energy

SHOP MY LOOK
For the grand finale, I went solo with a bold, fantasy-inspired look: Dragon Lady. Think mystical, powerful, and dripping with drama—a costume designed to make a serious entrance. Bonus: I even repurposed this one for a local Atlanta Halloween party!
How I Created the Look:
- The Outfit
- I started with a gold, robotic-looking catsuit (because why not?), chunky black platform boots, and added a gold dragon mask and wings set I found on AliExpress. Thank you, China!
- Dragon Makeup
- Since I was wearing a mask, I kept makeup simple (because, let’s be real, on Day 3 of a festival, you’re a little too tired to go all out).
Why It Worked:
The Dragon Lady look was bold, empowering, and perfect for a festival finale. It combined fantasy vibes with Hulaween energy, and it came together so easily. It’s one of my favorite costumes to date!
Special Shoutout to My Sister’s Iconic Maleficent Costume

Big shoutout to my sister for absolutely crushing her Maleficent costume at Hulaween. I watched her do the makeup in person, and I still can’t figure out how she pulled it off. Pure sorcery, people. Just wow. She is an icon, a legend, and she is the moment!
Tips for Nailing Festival Costumes:
- Plan Ahead
- Festivals get crazy busy, so organize your costumes early. It’s always a good idea to have backups, just in case. Weather may change up or something may break, you never know!
- Comfort Is Key
- You’ll be dancing and walking all day, so make sure your costumes are comfy—think breathable fabrics and shoes that won’t kill your feet.
- Mix Thrift and DIY
- Get creative with secondhand pieces and DIY accessories. You’ll save money and give your costume a personal touch.
- Add Lighting or Glow
- LED lights, glow paint, or reflective details will make your costume pop, especially in those low-light festival settings.
